With curly-haired dolls, the curls are "set." It's kind of like with a person who has naturally curly hair. The curls may fall out or change shape if they wear their hair back straight, but when they wash their hair--poof! there they are again.
With dolls, you just need to wet the hair. You can form curls around your fingers. My mom has a My Twinn with Shirley-temple-like ringlets, and this is how she does it. Every once in a while the curls fall a bit, and she has to repeat the process. (Lindsey's hair shouldn't be this much maintenance since it's not as curly.)
